

Jerry Wayne was born on November 4, 1951, in Texas City, Texas to Sam Billy Mapp and Frances Jurek who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his step-dad, Gene Jurek. Jerry is survived by his wife, Robin Lynn Hood.
Jerry is survived by his daughters, Eleonora Stoves and her husband Bennie Stoves of Pearland, Texas; Alicia Mapp of Austin, Texas; Brittany Nichole Prino and her husband, Ian Prino of Houston, Texas: and Holly Hollingsworth and her husband, Alex Hollingsworth of Denver, Colorado. He is survived by his sons Austin Kimball of Houston, Texas; Robert (Bobby) Hood and his wife, Rachel Hood of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; and Owen Hood and his wife, Carrie Hood of San Marcos, Texas.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Ashley Prescott, Evin Prescott, Elijah Stoves, Skylar Stoves, Hendrix Palomes, Bryce Prino, Hope Hood, and Harper Hood. He is also survived by his two great-grandchildren DeAndrian McCain Jr. and Aaiden McCain.
Growing up, Jerry Wayne attended James Madison High School and joined the Air Force shortly after graduation. Jerry served in Ethiopia until 1973 where he met his first wife, Maria Mapp.
After serving in the Air Force, Jerry used his education benefits to earn two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in physics at the University of Houston. In 1980, Jerry went to work at NASA for 16 years where he loved his work.
In 1996, Jerry moved to Austin where he transitioned to Project Management. Jerry enjoyed living in Austin, where he met his wife, Robin Hood. Jerry and Robin moved to Hawaii in 2010 to care for his dad, Billy. While in Hawaii, Jerry worked at Kamehameha Schools until 2020 when he retired.
While in Hawaii, Jerry and Robin made many wonderful friends. They enjoyed the beauty of the island and all that it had to offer, but he really wanted to be on the mainland to be closer to his loved ones, so they moved back in 2021.
Jerry loved his family more than anything else! He enjoyed taking his family on cruises, talking about physics to anyone who would listen, and learning more about science and how the world works. Jerry Wayne will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Jerry Wayne Mapp’s life will be held on Saturday, April 20th from 2:00-4:00pm at Walter Hall Park: 807 Highway 3 League City, Texas 77573.
