Jesus Amadeo Abeyta 02/29/1940 ~ 11/26/2018 and his beloved wife,
Kathryn Lorraine 04/10/1939 ~ 01/16/2019
“Love at first sight is easy to understand; it’s when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle.” – Sam Levenson
They met in the bay area at John Swett High School as students and were married in 1960 and remained devoted to each other until their passing, only 52 days apart. Together they had three children, Jess, Gariana and Yvonne. They were devoted parents who loved sharing their wisdom, life lessons and the importance of family. Like all good grandparents their grandkids got spoiled and loved and photographed endlessly. If they were still with us they would love to show you those pictures.
They were both longtime residents of Fountain, Colorado. They loved the beauty of the state and were very proud of their 5 acre farm; where they lived and raised their children and grandchildren.
Jesus Abeyta known to friends as “Jess” and to his family as “Papa” was born in New Mexico in 1940 and passed away after a brief illness in 2018. I would have used the term “called home to our Lord” but anyone that knew “Papa”, knows he had a strict no visiting policy, which only made us love him more. He worked for the City of Fountain Water Department until his retirement.
He is survived by his three children, Jess Abeyta, Gariana Abeyta and Yvonne (Bonnie) Benjamin; his sister, Cruz; his brothers, Alfred and Martin; five grand-children, Jesus, Christy, Miranda, David and Andrea; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Pete and Nash; and his sisters, Lola and Louisa.
Kathryn Abeyta known to all as “Kat” and loved by all that knew her was born in New Mexico in 1939 and passed away peacefully in her sleep in 2019. She worked at Western Forge, cultivating many friendships until her retirement. Other than being quite possibly the best tortilla maker the world may ever know, she was an ardent supporter of her beloved Denver Broncos. Watching a game with her was a delight; everyone in the family always looked forward to game days, and you were truly blessed to experience it.
She is survived by her three children; her sisters, Irene, Patty, Helen, and Della; her brothers, Lee, Ben, and Dan; five grand-children; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Art, Louie and Manuel.
Memorial contributions in the Abeyta’s name may be made to Colorado Horse Rescue, 10386 N 65th Street, Longmont, Colorado 80503 https://www.chr.org/
