Jess was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Cordova Masias and is survived by sons Tomas (Carmen), Richard (Susan), Manuel, Gilbert, Anthony (Debbie), Charles (Joy), and Mark (Mary); and daughters Katherine Lanning (Paul), Anita Page, JoAnn Pretzeus Forrest), Diana Masias, Carol Masias (Greg), and Tiana Campbell (J.D.); and 14 grandchildren, 31 great- grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and 17 step
grandchildren. Jess was also preceded in death by his brothers Joe, George, and Ray and sister Barbara Magdaleno. He also leaves behind his brothers Daniel, David and Arthur and sister Lydia Mejia.
Jess served as a radio operator in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II throughout the Pacific Theater including Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and the Gilbert Islands. Many people may remember him as the co-owner/manager with Margaret of the Old Mission Inn Restaurant on North Academy Blvd. or from the Eisenhower Golf Course at the Air Force Academy where he worked as a marshal. He was a resident of the McCandless Colorado Veterans Community Living Center in Florence from October 2013 until his death.
A memorial service will be held Saturday September 24 at 10 am at Swan Law Funeral Directors. A reception will follow immediately afterward at the Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.) at 1050 S. 21st Street.
The family requests that donations to the Alzheimer's Association be made in Jess' name in lieu of flowers or monetary gifts.
