

Joan Fye, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2011 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born September 16, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, the second of five children born to the late Theodore and Lily Pfeiffer.
Joan graduated high school from the American School of Paris and after a year at Mac Murray College in Illinois, married Second Lieutenant Richard S. Fye in June 1950. As Stan was a career Army officer, Joan served by his side as a military wife for thirty years. Together and sometimes separated by war or travel, the couple raised five children.
Upon retirement, Joan and Stan settled in Manhattan, Kansas where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology from Kansas State University. Joan and Stan enjoyed traveling, taking to the road in their RV and often wintered in Green Valley, Arizona. After Stan’s passing in 2008, Joan moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to be closer to family.
Joan leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Richard Fye, Jr. of Arizona; Stephen (Meg) Fye of Olney, Maryland; Ellen (Brenda) Fye of Silver Springs, Maryland; David (Pam) Fye of Takoma Park, Maryland; Ann (Holger) Jacks of Colorado Springs, Colorado; twelve grandchildren; two brothers, Phil Pfeiffer of Galisteo, New Mexico and Teddy Pfeiffer of Bakersfield, California as well as many caring friends.
Service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery Chapel, on January 9, 2012 at 3:00 p.m..
