

Born on March 4, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio, John was the loving husband of Irene McCormick Franklin and devoted father of Christopher (Anntonette) Franklin and Matthew (Amy) Franklin. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: John, Caleb, Lily, and Charlie.
The son of a USAF Colonel, John moved to Colorado Springs where he graduated from Wasson High School, attended Western Colorado University, and earned his law degree from the University of Wyoming. He spent 30 years in the El Paso County Attorney's Office, serving as an Assistant County Attorney and as a Colorado Civil Rights Commissioner.
John was a man of curiosity and intellect who enjoyed sharing stories and staying engaged with the world around him. He especially valued time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother David Franklin, and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucille Franklin, and his brother, James Franklin.
A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 in the chapel at Memorial Gardens, with a reception to follow.
