John Edward Gentle

John Gentle was born on August 7, 1924 in Curryville, Missouri. He spent his early years on a farm and attended college at the University of Missouri. He married Erma Robinson and had two children, John Stephen Gentle and Lynn Gentle Culver. They lived in several towns in Colorado. Later, he married Rebecca Lijavetzky, and had two more children, Carla Gentle and Silvana Gentle Nelson. John had a varied career, playing saxophone and clarinet in the “Big Band/Swing” era of the 1940’s, teaching high school music and traveling around the country to perform. He eventually moved into sales as a self-employed carpet/drapery store owner in Colorado Springs. John died peacefully on January 26, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife, Rebecca, and his daughter, Silvana Gentle Nelson. He is survived by children John Stephen Gentle, Lynn Gentle Culver (Robert Culver), and Carla Gentle (Michael Mayer), son-in-law Kirk Nelson as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 11th at 1:00 at Swan Law Funeral home.
