John was a great freind, so kind, and truly good. I called him Renaissance Man because he was so accomplished at so many things. He thought of himself foremost as an aviator, but also excelled at everything he did...skiing, playing and singing music, fishing, to name a few. His lust for life and the pride he took in excellence was inspiring. John loved his family above all else, and his face would light up as he recounted the accomplishments of his daughter and grand children. I will always cherish the fishing and skiing days and musical afternoons we spent together. Sharing stories and belly laughs. RIP, Johnny U.

My sincerest condolences to the family of John Ulbinsky and his friends. My first experience with Johnny U was as a Healing Waters mentor but by the end of the day he was mentoring me. Spent great days fishing the 11 mile canyon with him in his special fishing van. Will greatly miss this smile, jokes, and friendship.

My sincerest condolences to the family of John Ulbinsky and his friends. My experiences with John were through his mentoring of me to learn how to fly fish and not go swimming with the fish when reeling one into the net with Project Healing Waters. Many of the knots I learned from John, I use regularly today. He was very patient, understanding and willing to share his knowledge and wit. I will always remember his smile, chuckle, and praise when I mastered what he shared. I attribute being able to roll cast using both my left and right side effectively to John's mentoring. He would tell me in his kind and gentle way to practice, practice, practice to perfect my fly casting and presentation of the fly. His love of fly fishing, the respect he showed for the handling of a caught fish and letting it go to catch another day will forever remind me of John Ulbinsky. You will truly be missed as I and many others you have shared with, have so much more to learn. Rest in Peace and tight lines in Heaven, John! Kasey

I was lucky enough to work with Johnny U, everyone had a nickname, at Airborne Express. Being commuting pilots we had to have "crash pads" at our domicile. Wilmington Ohio at that time was not much more than farmland and an out of use Air Force auxiliary field. So the aviators spent more time together than usual. There where 6-8 of us in multiple buildings on a farm that raised pheasants, hunting dogs and sweet corn. I recall John's ready smile, stories and love of his family. Surfing. He even made me a shortened golf club so I could practice my grip while on trips. Aviators that have passed "fly West". Safe journey Johhny U.

We are so sorry to hear of John’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. I have fond memories of John taking me for bareback rides on his pony, Silver, while my parents were visiting his parents’ neighbors, the Cunninghams. I also have a painted, carved wooden pony which John himself made and which I have kept all these years.
