Born 2/28/45; Died 1/11/18.
Jolyn Husted, long time Colorado Springs resident, friend and "mom" to many, was
received by the Lord after a long-fought illness. Originally from Michigan, Jolyn met the
love of her life, John, corresponding with him first as an unknown GI in Vietnam who
was a Special Forces Medic. A romance developed through the mail and Jolyn
discovered he also lived in Michigan. After meeting and dating in person, they married
and remained so for 38 years, until John's death. They were stationed in several places in
the U.S. and Jolyn had the opportunity to teach in various schools. They arrived in
Colorado Springs in the early 1970s and were stationed at Fort Carson about seven years
before John retired from the Army. Both of them felt that Colorado was "home" and
settled here.
Jolyn loved the Lord. She also loved music, had been an organist for her church,
and was one of their first women priests. She enjoyed collecting angel figurines and pop-
up books. Jolyn had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. She loved teaching and
caring for children. She enjoyed reading all kinds of books, especially mysteries. Jolyn's
favorite charities were St. Joseph's Indian School and Springs Rescue Mission.
Jolyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother and husband. She is survived
by daughter Jennifer (Robert), son John, granddaughter Madelynn, niece Dana (David),
niece Taya, nephew Chad, several more nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews,
and many more relatives throughout the United States.
Jolyn will be deeply missed.
