Joseph A. Fitzgibbons of Colorado Springs CO sadly left us on June 27, 2025. He was born in Port Jervis, NY on January 13, 1931. He married M. Annette (Ann) Coney Fitzgibbons in 1953 and together they raised 6 children. He is survived by Michael Fitzgibbons (Nita), JoAnne Bartoletti (Rick), Susan Massa, Annie Fitzgibbons, Mary Jo Foley (Kevin) and Joe Fitzgibbons (Kelly). He was preceded in death by his son Steve (2021) and wife Ann of 67 years (2020). He has 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Joe graduated from Port Jervis High School in 1948, SUNY Cortland in 1952 and received his Master of Science degree from Cortland in 1962. He was given an Honorary Doctor of Humane letters by Geneva Seminary. He served his country as a Captain in the Marine Corps, taught Math and Science, and was a Civil Servant, working as the Director of Education for the Air Force for 30 years. Joe felt education was important and he touched many people’s lives by helping them to receive an education and fulfill their dreams. He was awarded a medal by the US Air Force for “Meritorious Civilian Service.” Joe was a sports enthusiast and loved all sports. He played basketball and football in high school and ran track in college. He also played adult softball and coached youth sports. He and Ann attended First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs and were active in Sunday school. He was most relaxed at our summer cottage, spending time with loved ones, on Keuka Lake in New York State. Joe was a loving husband and father. He liked a good joke and story and was the loudest singer on Christmas Eve. He will be missed but will remain in our hearts forever. Semper Fi.
A Service will be held July 26 at 11:00 at First United Methodist Church Chapel, 420 N. Nevada. In lieu of flowers a donation to The Place, 423 Cucharras St., 80903 may be made in Joe’s name.
