Joyce was born on May 15, 1938, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Lloyd Keithley and Maebell (Atwood) Keithley. An only child, she grew up throughout the Denver area and attended 14 different schools before graduating from high school—a testament to her resilience and determination.
Joyce met the love of her life, Jack Kohlen Funk, in 1957, and the two were married later that same year. Jack often joked with his friends that “Joyce chased me until I caught her,” a story that always brought smiles to those who knew them. Together they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage until Jack’s passing. Through hard work and unwavering commitment, they built a life centered on family and raised three strong, independent daughters.
Joyce enjoyed a long career as an administrative assistant, working for several dental practices before finishing her career with an engineering group at Lockheed Martin. She took great pride in her work.
Outside of work, Joyce found joy in quilting, sewing, and crafting. She was also a devoted animal lover and always had a faithful dog or cat by her side. She often said that while she may have rescued them, they ended up rescuing her.
She is survived by her daughters, Jill (Malcolm) Smith, Janet (Jeff) Rosacker, and Judy (Michael) Willis; her grandchildren, CoriJo, Amber, Evan, Ashley, and Joshua; and her great-granddaughters, Lily and Haisley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Kohlen Funk; her parents, Lloyd Keithley and Maebell (Atwood) Keithley; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 9, from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. Joyce will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Orchard Mesa Cemetery in Grand Junction, Colorado.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 15, at 4:00 p.m. at Summit Glen Gracious Retirement Living, 4825 Old Farm Drive, Colorado Springs, where Joyce spent the final two years of her life. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care. The compassion, grace, and dignity they showed Joyce during her final days brought great comfort to both her and her family.
