Judith Gaye Smedley

Judy graduated from Wedster Grooves High School in Saint Louis, MO, in 1961. Throughout her life, she carried herself with a steady honesty and a thoughtful way of being—qualities that shaped how she served others and how she loved those closest to her. She was a Girl Scout Leader when her girls were young, remained an active member of the Church, and gave her time through volunteer work. She also enjoyed the companionship and fellowship found in a Bridge Club and a Hiking Club.

Judy worked at the Dean of Students office at the University of Kansas while Gary was in college. She later devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, spending 63 years as an extraordinary stay-at-home mother. In the daily, often unseen work of caring for a home and raising children, her compassionate spirit and devoted presence made a lasting difference—one that will be remembered with deep gratitude and love.

Judy was married to Gary Lee Smedley for 65 years. Together they shared a passion for world travel, and she especially cherished time at the family cabin in the Black Hills of South Dakota—an enduring place of comfort, togetherness, and treasured memories.

Judy is survived by her husband, Gary Lee Smedley; three daughters, Susan, Christine, and Kelly; and one son, Steven. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Glena Allen, and her brother, Robert Allen.

Visitation will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910, US, on September 12, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow at the same location on September 12, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A Committal Service will be held thereafter at Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home on September 12, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm.

Beloved and cherished, Judy will be remembered for the quiet strength of her devotion, the sincerity of her character, and the gentle, considerate ways she made others feel seen and cared for. Her life leaves an enduring legacy in the family she loved and the many lives touched by her faithful kindness.
