As a servant of God, Judith (Judy) Ann Thomas’s love of life didn’t come to an end with her death on July 18, 2023, it was a celebration of everlasting life with Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior. Judy passed at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with congestive heart and kidney failure. During her last days, she was surrounded by her immediate family and loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest and honoring God.
Judy was the daughter of Paul and Emma Lou, both of which passed when she was a young adult. In her younger days she loved to hike and explore God’s beauty, especially His wildflowers. She was an avid Girl Scout member and leader.
She received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO and enjoyed teaching countless students during her career. During retirement, she found a new passion by becoming a Woman of the Word (WoW) leader at Radiant Assembly of God Church. She took great joy in serving women who needed words of encouragement. She found purpose and joy in helping others find the love and happiness she had found with God’s word and love.
She and her husband Philip enjoyed bowling, skiing, camping, fishing, boating, and playing games, especially the card game Hand and Foot. She loved and cherished her husband and taught him many skills and hobbies. By far, her greatest blessing and joy was the day she became a mother of two beautiful daughters whom she loved unconditionally and taught them how to be strong and independent women. She was extra blessed when she became a grandmother. She was thrilled when the grandkids referred to her as “Grammie”. She loved them so.
She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities, no matter what she was going through. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. Her love language was “serving” and many benefited by her generosity. Judy loved to sew and host dinners for her family and friends whenever possible. She was a fabulous hostess and honored her guests with her finest place settings. She was always trying to feed everyone who came to her home, whether it be through food or friendship. She loved having lunch with friends and playing games.
Judy is survived by her husband, Philip; daughters, Emily and Julie; grandchildren, Brendan and Joy; sister, Mary Lou; nephews, Robert Paul, Patrick, and Stephen; and cousins, Ken and Karen.
The family would like to thank each of you for the thoughtful comments and prayers you have provided. She always wanted to be sure that her husband was fed so in lieu of flowers or homemade meals please consider food gift cards.
A visitation for Judith will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
