John Walker Brackett, 76, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, after his long battle with cancer. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who touched many lives with his kindness, generosity, and humor. He was known to most as JW and loved to say it was because he was “Just Wonderful”.
JW was born on January 4, 1948, in Oklahoma, to the late John and Janice Brackett. He joined the Air Force and after his service became a program manager for telecommunications projects. After he retired, he became President of the HOA and was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Sertoma Club. JW spent his free time fishing, hiking, playing poker with friends, and fixing anything that was broken.
He married Leigh Fowler June 25, 1965, and had two children, John and Erica. On May 4, 2002, JW married Jean Kolbeck and welcomed her children, Jennifer and Jeffrey, into his family. JW was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather (with nine grandchildren), who always encouraged his family to pursue their dreams and passions. He was proud of their achievements and celebrated their milestones.
JW was a man of faith, who attended First Presbyterian Church regularly. He was involved in various charitable and community activities, such as volunteering at the local soup kitchen, providing lunch to preschoolers, mentoring students through reading programs, and donating to various causes. He was a compassionate and generous person, who always helped those in need. He was also a man of integrity, who valued honesty, respect, and loyalty. He was a role model and an inspiration to many.
JW will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his gentle spirit, and his zest for life. He left a lasting legacy of love, joy, and peace.
