and gentle soul.
Karen was born in Pueblo, Colorado, on January 21, 1955 to Sully and Louise Andreatta. She grew up
in Colorado Springs.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony DeHerrera, her loving son Matthew Garcia, and her five
grandchildren, Malchiah, Mateo, Astraea, Emilio, and Quinten, and her sisters Kathleen, Patricia,
Sandy and Evelyn.
Karen attended four years of college at Colorado State University, Fort Collins. She worked at Current/
Checks Unlimited for over twenty years. Karen also attended Pima Medical Institute and graduated as a
Veterinary Assistant. After graduation she worked at Pets and Friends Animal Hospital in Pueblo until
she passed away. Her coworkers there became close, dear friends.
Karen thoroughly enjoyed life. She loved hiking and camping. She was also a great cook and her
specialty was making a spicy salsa, which she shared with everyone. She had a special place in her
heart for all animals and especially her beloved dogs.
She was an avid sports fan. She closely followed the Denver Broncos and the NHL Colorado
Avalanche. After a special request, the Avalanche sent her a signed sweater (jersey) of her favorite
player, number 8, Cale Makar.
The family would like to give special thanks to Karen’s brother-in-law, Denis Leveille, for going out of
his way to help Karen during her battle with cancer.
We will forever miss her beautiful smile and happy laugh. Services will be held at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, 2030 W. Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904, on Friday, March 18,
2022 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to, “Hockey Fights Cancer”, in memory of Karen DeHerrera,
