As Kathy’s birth mother was unable to care for her, she was taken in by a Catholic orphanage until she was 9 months old when she was adopted by Edward James and Josephine “Jo” Irene Ryan from Rouses Point, NY.
Edward was a Railroad General Engineer for the Delaware-Hudson Railroad and Jo was a homemaker. When Kathy was 4 yrs old, the family moved to Albany, NY where they lived for three years. As a teenager, Kathy became interested in photography and attended several different photography schools. Before Kathy’s senior year, the family moved to Glens Falls, NY, and she graduated from Glens Falls Senior High school.
Following graduation, Kathy and a schoolmate drove to Colorado for a vacation and in search of beautiful scenery. Kathy liked Colorado and decided to stay. She wanted to pursue photography and went to work for Darrell Porter Photography in Colorado Springs for several months but found it difficult to make a living. Kathy then worked at Auto Equipment Company. While there, she got a “tip” that Peterson Field was hiring contractors to work in the Air Force Supply division. She applied and worked there for a number of years.
Kathy had a brief marriage in the early 1980s. The couple lived in Canada, Minnesota, and San Antonio, Texas. They parted amicably and Kathy moved back to her favorite place, Colorado Springs.
She had a love for animals and had several pet dogs and watched out for “Misty”, the alley cat, for the past 25 years.
Kathy was able to return to her contracting job at Peterson AFB and stayed for nearly 38 years. She finally retired in 2014 when the supply contract ended.
During her time at Peterson, Kathy met a colleague, Linda Woolman, and they became life-long friends. With a group of buddies, they often travelled back to New York, Vermont and Kansas to visit family and continue her hobby of photography.
Kathy was a Parishioner at St. Mary’s Cathedral and attended the Latin Mass there until the Mass was moved to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Security, CO. She was devoted to her Parish, learned Gregorian Chant and became a Choir member, singing every Sunday and Holy Day.
Kathy encouraged her dear friend, Linda, to attend Mass but it wasn’t until Linda became gravely ill that she became Catholic. She was cared for by Kathy until her passing in 2020.
Kathy helped support numerous traditional Catholic Religious communities and charities and was a staunch supporter of EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network).
Kathy is survived by her dear neighbor and friend, Randy, along with her friends and fellow Parishioners at Immaculate Conception Parish.
A Requiem Mass for Kathy will be celebrated on Monday, July 13th, 2026, at 12:00 noon, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (626 Aspen Drive), preceded by the Holy Rosary at 11:30 am.
A small reception in the Church Hall will follow.
Kathy will be buried at the St. Mary’s Columbarium, Colorado Springs, CO in the near future.
Memorial contributions in Kathleen’s honor may be sent to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP), 450 Venard Rd, South Abington Township, PA 18411 or online at: https://fssp.com/support/.
Special thanks and gratitude to the Clergy and Ladies of Immaculate Conception Parish; the Nursing Staff and Deacon Dave at Gentiva Hospice; and the wonderful caregivers at Happiest Chapters of Your Life, LLC.
