She was born on July 28, 1962, in Watseka, Illinois to Wallace and Sylvia White. She moved to Denver, Colorado 2 weeks later. She started to learn the piano at age 5 and the cello at age 10. In her senior year in high school, she won the Fort Collins Symphony competition in cello and the MTNA state competition, and then represented Colorado at the divisional competition in St. Louis. She was a member of Denver Young Artist Orchestra during high school. She graduated from Pomona High School in 1980. She attended the Aspen Music Festival her senior year in college. She completed a Bachelor of Music in cello performance at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1984.
She met Patrick Dorbin while at the University of Colorado in Boulder and they married after she graduated in June 1984. She moved to Colorado Springs with Pat. She enjoyed adventuring and traveling with Pat (if she was warm…). She was a proud mother of 3 sons, Eric, Benjamin and Daniel, and then the adventures really began. She loved filling the home with family, friends, joy, food, and music.
Kathy used her musical skills in church worship, in teaching and accompanying both piano and cello. Through her musical connections, she was able to coach and play at several string camps. She was excited to play at the Pikes Peak Center for the Christmas Joy concert for many years.
Kathy found great joy in focusing her teaching and playing to help others to lead, sing and play for worship. She served from 2017 to 2023 with Joni and Friends ministry at Family Retreat where she served families and children affected by disabilities. She played cello and guitar for large and small gatherings as she served.
She joyfully received 2 daughters-in-law Lauren (Eric) and Joanna (Daniel). She was excited to see her first grandchild Isla (Daniel and Joanna). She was the "purple queen" to many young girls. She gave "purplized" bears, hand-made pictures and cards and pumpkin bread to many.
Kathy fought her illness for 16 years with the last 2 years affecting her mobility. Her courage, grace and kindness were expressed to all who provided care for her.
Kathy is survived by her husband Patrick; children Eric (Lauren), Benjamin and Daniel (Joanna); granddaughter Isla; her mother Sylvia White; her sister Karen White. She was preceded in death by her father Wallace White.
Kathy loved Jesus Christ deeply and we are all greatly comforted knowing that she is with Him in perfect joy, peace and life without end.
