Kenneth Burten Avis

Kenneth B. Avis passed away on September 7, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on April 24, 1940, in Gordon, Nebraska, he was the son of George W. Avis and Vera (Hill) Avis and the second child in his family, alongside his sister, LaVern (Avis) Lewis.

Kenneth grew up in Gordon, Nebraska, where he graduated from Gordon High School in 1956. It was there that the foundation was laid for a life defined by family, hard work, and the simple joys that meant the most to him.

In 1960, Kenneth married Shirley M. (Whipple) Avis. Together, they built a beautiful life and welcomed six children: Larry Avis, Terrienna (Avis) Kramer, William Avis, Kathleen Avis, Robert Avis, and Bonnita (Avis) Remer and husband Gary Remer.

Kenneth was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He took great pride in his family and always made time for the people he loved. His steady presence, quiet strength, hard work, and kind heart left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his twinkling smile, his love of family, his hard-working spirit, and the genuine care he showed to so many. Whether it was a conversation, a helping hand, or simply being there, Kenneth had a way of making people feel important.

His family continued to grow throughout his lifetime, and he took great pride in the generations that followed him. Few things speak more beautifully to a life well-lived than the family left behind, and Kenneth's legacy will continue through each of them.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Avis; his children, Larry Avis, Terrienna (Avis) Kramer and husband Thomas Kramer, William Avis and partner Tina Pacheco, Robert Avis and wife Tracy Avis, and Bonnita (Avis) Remer; his 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Avis (1966-1970), his son-in-law, Gary Remer (1965-2016), and his sister, LaVern (Avis) Lewis (1928-2003).
