Kenneth J. Carbo, age 91 and a 49 year resident of Colorado Springs, passed away August 22, 2011 due to complications from a recent surgery. Ken was born February 23, 1920 in Graniteville, Mass. to Claire (Payne) and Harry Carbo. He was a bomber pilot and instructor while serving in the United States Air Force during WWII, reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel before retiring. His military travels took him to many places including Alaska, Norway, and to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. After his retirement, he was a real estate broker and sold the very first lot in Village Seven here in Colorado Springs. He was also Rocky Mountain Director and President of the Exchange Club of Colorado Springs. Ken married his wife of 57 years, LaVerne (Garber) Carbo in Danby, Missouri on May 22, 1954. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother John and a sister Millicent. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife LaVerne, his sisters Patricia Bush and Joan Esposito, his children Pamela Gateley (Kyle), Kristie Loftis (Wayne), and Timothy Carbo (Linda), his grandchildren Brooke Greene, Christopher Hyskell, Calley Wenzel, Jordan and Chelsea Gateley, and Steve and Todd Loftis as well as many great grandchildren and family friend Darlene Blood. Ken was a big sports enthusiast especially about baseball and the Rockies and was credited for bringing the first Alaskan semi pro baseball team to the national tournaments. He was known for his wonderful story telling and the huge love he had for his family. All in all, he was the finest man we ever knew.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Road on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 11:00.
