Launa Mae Vigil fell asleep in Death on Sunday October 30,2022 in her home in Colorado Springs CO surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 18, 1940 in Peru, NE to Raymond and Inez Meritt. She moved to Colorado and met the love of her life, Frank Vigil. Married for 40 years and had five children; Tonya (Mike), Frank (Gabby), Timothy, Dora, and Christian (Jennifer),six grandchildren(Brittany, Miranda, Cord, Lucas, Carter, Claire) and three great grandchildren (Aspen, Willow, Cole) whom she loved dearly. She has one Surviving Sister (Gladys) and Sister in Law (Bonnie) , and multiple cousins, nieces, nephews along with her spiritual family.
She is preceded in death by her parents (Raymond and Inez) Brothers (Leonard and Glen), Husband (Frank).
The story of Launa Mae:
She learned her strong work ethic by working alongside her family farming, milking cows and cattle driving. A natural nurturer, she worked as an LPN until her marriage to Frank in 1964. She then worked faithfully alongside her husband, raising their five children while helping to build what is now Coating Specialist. She loved being an integral part of a large family of Vigil’s and Merritt’s. Always present for every event, either joyous or that of sorrow, to show her love and support. Frank and Launa were always hospitable, opening their home to whoever needs a place to lay their head or share a meal, no matter how humble it was. Her hearty laugh was like no other, her smile with her “Hotlips Hoolihan” fire engine red lipstick from ear to ear was so infectious. She truly loved every day of life, always finding something to be happy about. She praised everyone she met and always emphasized the good she found in them, always building them up.
She loved all of her children dearly and spoke of them often. She would call and leave the most heartfelt messages just to let them know how much she loved them, how beautiful/handsome the were, sing the “I love you song”- and what Bible verse or a Watchtower article she wanted us to read. She had a special place in her heart for her precious grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them enjoying Jehovah’s creation at the zoo, play in the pool or lazy river in her floaty, or play hide and seek and dance with them. She dearly loved her son in law Michael, daughter in laws Jennifer and Gabby. She had a reputation as a loving kind sweet woman.
She truly loved and appreciated how much Shawn and Brittany helped Dora to care for her. Shawn being an honorary daughter.
She loved to travel with her family. She traveled all over the United States, Europe (Greece), Hawaii and Mexico multiple times. She also loved to attend family reunions and any occasion to be together with those she loved. She loved to garden and appreciated the beautiful creation all around her.
While Frank was the love of her life, her greatest love was what she had for Jehovah God. She was baptized February 12, 1956 in Fort Collins, CO and served Jehovah loyally and faithfully for 66 years. She was an avid Bible reader, constantly reading it daily and multiple times through. She would get old Bibles and tear out the pages after she read it! She said she read the Bible 27 times. Whenever she found a passage or interesting point, she made sure to share it with everyone. She had such a strong faith in Jehovah’s promise of the resurrection hope (John 5:28,39) that allowed her to face any trial, especially her final diagnosis of AML. Displaying the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) gave her calm spirit and continued to share with everyone around her that she did not fear death. She loved spending time with her brothers and sisters attending, Christian meetings and sharing as fully as possible the good news of the kingdom. She saw herself when all things are new, she had the conviction that when she fell asleep in death, closed her eyes and when she opened them again, she would be in Jehovah Gods promised New World under these conditions:
Revelation 21:3,4
“ Look ! The tent of God is with Mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
Launa’s last message:
"I want to see all of my children, brothers and sisters when I wake up, so please try hard to meet me there. Love you all so much."
The Vigil family would like to thank all those that have sent meals, phone calls, text messages and flowers. The love shown through this difficult time is overwhelming and appreciated.
