Laura G. Griffin May 19, 1922-March 31, 2021

Laura Gertrude (Walton) Griffin was born in McPherson, Kansas, the twelfth child of Rev. John and Harriet (Benton) Walton. Laura‘s parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, and the granddaughters of her first husband, Theodore L. Young (Ted). Ted suddenly passed away in 1971. Laura later married Cullen L. Griffin. Following Cullen’s death in 2007Laura lived independently until these last couple of years during which her niece provided assistance for Laura. Laura died March 31 of this year.

Laura attended Central College in McPherson, Kansas, then completed her Associate Degree in Business at McCook Community College in McCook, Nebraska. Laura used her artistic talents while employed for three years by a fabric pattern design studio in New York City. She worked as a bookkeeping accountant in McPherson, KS, and Colorado Springs, CO. Here she was employed by Lane Distributors, and Pitcock Drug Store. She then continued as a self-employed accounting service to other local businesses.

The out-of-doors and nature were Laura’s delight! Ted and Laura enjoyed many adventures together, spending recreation time in their camper and at their mountain cabins in Idaho Springs and Lake George. Her family greatly enjoyed visiting them, going hiking and gold panning in the streams near their cabins. Photography was a hobby of both Ted Young and Cullen Griffin.

Laura was an active member of Mountain View Wesleyan Methodist Church (Awakening Church) and a community Bible Study Group. She was a dedicated Christian with a generous heart of service to others. Laura provided home care for her mother and eldest sister, Esther Petefish during their final days of life. During her later years, she volunteered serving lunch to seniors and knitted baby hats for needy infants

In her nearly 99 years of life Laura gathered a multitude of loving friends and family. She will be greatly missed...

Though I had not spoken with "Grandma Laura" in quite some time, I remember meeting her through her granddaughter Debbie. She was a delightful woman, and spending time at her cabin in the mountains - including a very quick swim in the pond - was wonderful for a Florida boy. She will be missed! Godspeed Grandma Laura.

Some of my most vivid and most pleasant childhood memories are of Aunt Laura—games, trips, tricks, lots of fun—when she lived with her brother Harold’s family, including me, in Leonia N.J. This was in 1946 or so, 75 years ago! She was in her early 20’s; I was 6 or 7.

I have many lovely memories of Laura and Grif. One that stands out most is the search for one of her birds that got away...don't remember whether it was Twerp or Peepers. It took several days but the mystery was solved. Laura had to trade a new bird she purchased for HER one of the residence in the Park. Sweet Laura was perfectly happy, however I was livid. Needless to say Laura told me to remain calm. You would have thought it was my bird.
A wonderful woman, I will miss her, but will cherish the memories.

I think, Cousin Louis, that Aunt Laura was probably everyone's favorite! And that we all think we were her favorites. What a woman, to make all her nieces and nephews feel special!

Aunt Laura took care of me when I was first born, and for several years afterwards. She moved to New Jersey to help my mother with my three older brothers and me while my father was in the Navy. She taught me to talk, to walk, and to go potty (not necessarily in that order), all of which I'm still doing.

I love you, Aunt Laura, and thanks.

Aunt Laura was always my favorite. She was so nonjudgmental, accepting and kept her sense of humor

In addition to all of Colorado Springs, the Walton Clan and Aunt Laura, I always looked forward to Uncle Ted's player piano.

Aunt Laura will always have a special place in my memory.

Querida y recordada Sharman

Tu querida tía ya está en el Cielo, y será tu segura ayuda en tu vida.
Te recuerdo con cariño, y aún hace poco estaba viendo un video tuyo sobre una planta en tu jardin.

Un abrazo,

My condolences to Sharman and family for your loss.
She's trascending to a new life, with no pain and no suffering.
