

Leona, the eldest of ten children, was born September 13th 1929 to Jacob and Theresa Meyer in Quinter, Kansas and raised on the family farm in Grainfield.
Leona married July 24th, 1952 to Harold Carter of Unionville, MO. Together they had five children known by friends and family as the “5 Ks”. Karen (Les) Lewis of Evanston, WY; Kenneth of Commerce City, CO; Kevin of Colorado Springs; Keyna (David) Welenc of Orange, MA and Kelli (Bart) Terry of Colorado Springs.
Leona was widowed at the age of 39, losing Harold to the Vietnam War, faithfully raised her five young children. Harold, forever her one and only true love.
Leona, a devout Catholic, attended and served as secretary of Holy Family Church for more than 25 years; a member of many organizations along with tireless hours of volunteer work. While a 50 year Security resident, she was well known in her community and maintained a strong foundation of friends.
Leona was a 2003 cancer survivor. Her son Kevin was the family rock while she battled cancer and later as she aged, so she could remain in her home.
Survivors are her five children, five grand-children, six great-grand-children, two great-great-grandchildren, six sisters, one brother and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters.
Visitation and Rosary will be held at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, Sunday, March 25th, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with the Rosary starting at 5:00PM and Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Monday, 26th, at 10:00 AM.
