

Linda Lou Shafer Gilbert was born on February 27, 1941, with her twin sister, Sandra Sue, in Kansas City, Kansas. She passed away May 10, 2026, in Colorado Springs, CO with her loving family at her side. She lived a long and productive life filled with love, joy and compassion to many.
Linda accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life and lived her Christian beliefs all her life as an example to her family, friends, and all those she encountered.
She was passionate about her nursing career and was blessed to have been an active nurse for 52 years. Her specialty was Maternity Nursing and loved working in labor and delivery, nursery and all Maternity areas at the Greenville, Texas hospital. She also worked for 3-years at the Arkansas Children’s hospital and the last 13-years at Penrose Hospital in the GI lab in Colorado Springs, CO. After retiring from her nursing career, she continued in the medical field as a Volunteer “Cuddler” in the NICU unit of St. Francis Medical Center. She also volunteered at the faith-based Mercy’s Gate Center assisting those in need.
She was blessed and grateful to have been married for 63 years to Harold Gilbert, and loved being his wife, and the mother of two daughters Kara Gay Lynne and Glenda Gail.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Shafer, and Florence Carr Shafer, her youngest daughter, Dr. Glenda Gilbert Hickman. She is survived by her husband Dr. Harold Gilbert, oldest daughter Kara Gilbert McIntyre, her twin sister Sandra Sue Shafer Oliver, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and two nieces.
Favorite Verse: Micah 6:8 “What does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
A small gathering for family will be conducted at Swan-Law Funeral Home followed by her cremation. A graveside service for her remains will be at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
