Dr. Louis B. Kucera, M.D. passed away after a long illness on Good Friday, April 22, 2011. He was born in Northome, MN to the late Edward and Mary (Strnad) Kucera.
Louis graduated from Marquette University Medical School, Milwaukee, WI in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during intervals from 1942 to 1955 with the final rank of captain, completing his military service at Fort Carson, CO.
He married Angela Marie Jelinek, of St. Paul, MN, on September 16, 1950. His uncle, the late Bishop Louis B. Kucera of Lincoln, NE performed the wedding ceremony. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1954 where Dr. Kucera established a successful 45 year medical practice, specializing in family medicine. Louis and Angela raised their ten children in Colorado Springs.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife in 2007, and also by his two sisters, Sr.Elouise Kucera, O.S.B. and Marcella Adams, both of MN. He is survived by his twin sister, Agatha Hebl and his brothers Valentine, George and Robert all of MN. He is also survived by his children: Mary L. Kucera, R.N., David P. Kucera, Dr. John L. (Cornelia) Kucera, Rev. Allan R. Kucera, Margaret A. (Michael) Satriano, Sr. Veronica of the Holy Face and Sr. Elias of the Angels (both of the Order of Discalced Carmelites), Thomas J. Kucera, Patrice C. (Jon) Sutter and Anne B. Heckenkamp, all of Colorado.
He is also survived by six grandchildren: Gregory (Erin), Anthony, Dominic and Juliana Satriano and Benedict and Christopher Heckenkamp. He has one great-grandchild, Lillian Satriano.
He was a member and benefactor of the Servants of the Holy Family in Colorado Springs, attending the traditional Catholic Mass there with his family for many years.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 29, 2011 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm followed by the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Dr., Colorado Springs, CO, 80918. The private funeral and Requiem Mass will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011 followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs.
