Mother Lucile Dorsey slipped peacefully from the arms of her family into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday evening, June 23, 2023. She was born Oct 19, 1929 to Milton and Ruth White in Emporia, KS where she attended local schools and graduated from Emporia High School. She married her forever love, Virgil Dorsey, in 1947.
Mother Dorsey was a member of True Spirit Baptist Church and was active until her illness prevented her attendance. She was a deaconess, choir member, greeter, and president of the Mother’s Board. Mother Dorsey had also been an active participant of the General Baptist Convention and the General Mission.
Wherever she was, she ministered to people. She shared the Word with people in the grocery store. She invited people to church. If they didn’t have a ride, she’d pick them up and bring them. Mother Dorsey talked to everyone about God and wanted to see them saved. Family, friends, and random strangers were her mission field. Even when she lived in the nursing facility, people heard about God from chats with Mother Dorsey. The chaplain there once told us how he loved having her at their Sunday service because she knew all the songs and sang along with him!
Lucile was employed with Schlage Lock Company for 16 years working in HR before retiring in 1994. Later, she worked part-time as a receptionist for different businesses including American National Bank and Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. She also worked as a substitute for School District 2.
Mother Dorsey loved Bible Studies, singing, and going to church. She looked forward to family times and outings. She was spirited, spiritual, and full of joy. She is and will continue to be deeply missed.
Mrs Dorsey is preceded in death by her parents and husband, two brothers Milton Jr and Leonard, son Danny, three grandchildren Quiana, Anthony and Lucinda, and one great-grandchild DeAndre.
Mrs Dorsey leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Ruthann (Marshall) Patterson, Alberta (James) Hand, son, Virgil (Patricia) Dorsey II, daughter-in-law, Tonya Dorsey, 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
