Maxine Weaver Cunningham, age 88, stepped into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. She was born on May 20, 1930 at St. Francis Hospital to Charles and Virginia (Ring) Kappel. A native of Colorado Springs, she attended Lowell Elementary, South Junior High and Colorado Springs High School, graduating in 1948. During high school she worked at Hibbard’s Department Store running the elevator. She was a member of the “Sunshine Girls” her high school reunion group, and she participated monthly with them monthly for many years.
Maxine married Kenneth Weaver on September 1, 1950 and had three children, David, Kathy and Steve. In 1964 they moved to Black Forest where she lived 50 years. Maxine’s passions were her faith, her family and her animals. From Stonecroft ministries to Bible Study Fellowship, Maxine loved to study the Bible, worship her Lord and share with others. She and Kenneth travelled extensively, including Hawaii and Switzerland, in addition to many places in the US. After Kenneth’s passing on February 25, 1992, Maxine continued to travel, taking all 5 of her grandchildren to Hawaii, the Bahamas, Disneyland, on cruises, and numerous camping trips. They made many memories traveling in the mountains in her Mini Winnebago. Her animals rounded out her life and you could find her yard full of horses, dogs and cats in addition to her grandkids. They will never forget their time at Grandma’s playing games, riding horses and doing crafts. Maxine’s love of pinecones led to the grandkids spending many hours with her collecting pinecones and creating wreaths and candle holders.
At a high school reunion she met and later married Chuck Cunningham, a 1945 graduate of Colorado Springs High School. They lived in both Pahrump, Nevada and Black Forest for several years. She became an avid golfer, learning to golf at age 69. Chuck passed on May 5, 2017.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Dorothy Watts. She is survived by her sister Dolores (Boice) Whiting, children David and Nancy Weaver, Kathy Maguire, and Steven (Sara deceased) Weaver, her grandchildren David and wife Amy Weaver, Allison and husband Levi Rauch, Brian Belger, Kim Thieme, Todd Weaver and Sara Weaver, and great grandchildren, Savannah Fanning, Cody Belger, Madison Rauch, Kiley, Brandon and Caleb Weaver, and multiple extended family members.
