Maida was born to parents Benjamin and Ethel Pinkowitz on September 20, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up as the eldest of two and graduated from Olney High School before completing a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree at Temple University. In 1965, she married Robert Ozer, a friend and classmate going back to kindergarten. Following her divorce in 1976, Maida began a new career as a legal secretary and, in 1981, moved to Colorado to be closer to her two daughters.
Maida was active in the Jefferson Unitarian Church, the First Universalist Church and the Beth Ami Colorado Congregation for Humanistic Judaism in Denver, Colorado. She worked at the law firm of her ex-husband as well as with several other Denver attorneys prior to her retirement and was active in square dancing and contra dancing. She lived for ten years with her friend Terry Fleisher prior to moving to the Good Samaritan Society in Goodland, KS in 2015.
Maida is survived by her daughters, Marla Allen and Rachel Ozer; her brother, Alan Bertram and three grandchildren, Brendan, Martina and Victor and her cat Mushroom. She is preceded in death by her ex-husband, Robert Ozer and her parents, Benjamin and Ethel.
The cremation took place on February 24, 2021 and Maida will be interred at Crystal Park cemetery in Manitou Springs, CO. The family is grateful for the condolences, but declines flowers and suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s society.
