Maria Theresa Juvera - loving daughter, sister, auntie, friend, and world traveler – made the ultimate journey from Earth to Heaven to be with her LORD and Savior early in the morning of September 2, 2020.

She passed at home with her father by her side, after a painful season of kidney failure and other serious diabetic complications, at the age of 61. Maria was born and raised in Colorado Springs, daughter of MaryAnn Juvera (deceased 2015) and Benito Juvera of Penrose, CO. She is survived by her father Benito Juvera, brother Benito Joe Juvera of Colorado Springs, four nieces and nephews three great nieces and nephews and thousands of unrelated Colorado youth who were directly impacted by her.

Maria’s happy pink cheeks and girly disposition earned her the nickname Pinky, which stayed with her throughout her life. She graduated from Harrison High School in 1977, and had a fruitful career at Farmers Insurance Group for many years. She enjoyed a life of travel around the globe first as a curious American tourist. But her love for Christ and service to others propelled her into her second and most fulfilling career as a Youth Minister for Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where she traveled the globe chaperoning for World Youth Day, playing and singing in the New Creation band, and leading other events - always encouraging others to embrace their faith and live a full life dedicated to Jesus and others. Her nieces and nephews grew up knowing her only by “Auntie” – and she was the best auntie ever. Maria moved to Penrose, CO after retiring, put her hands to work again at Wal-Mart, made new friends, and faithfully cared for the needs of her parents through it all.

Her life was full of grace for others, hope in affliction, love for Jesus, and faith that allowed her to persevere to the very end. Maria’s life can be summed up easily: Jesus said: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Maria, we miss you and celebrate your life…Well done, good and faithful servant.

A funeral for Maria will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, seating is limited to 50.

Maria , my dear friend and co-worker. I will always treasure our friendship and never forget the many adventures we had including watching movies and sharing popcorn with your dad. And as Corpus Christi's DRE, the years working with you serving children/youth/adults - organizing staff retreats, school Mass, making pretzels for the entire student body, sharing your well stocked closet of religious supplies, Easter Vigil late night meals and many other fond memories. Thank you for blessing me with your love and friendship.

Maria, thank you for taking such good care of my sons, Jason and Patrick. You were the "mother" to so many in youth group. You loved your children and they love you!! Our Catholic community will not be the same without you!!

Maria was always so positive & her laugh was infectious. I met her when my kids were in Corpus Christi youth group. When they went to World Youth Day I knew they were in good hands with Maria & she helped them see God. I'm sorry she wasn't with us longer on earth but she is certainly by God's side w/her mom. Thank you Maria for everything you did!

Maria, I am so grateful for the years you were my three daughters' RE leader at Corpus Christi, and that I had the privilege to assist when my eldest was in middle and high school. You were always so patient and positive with the students' many questions, and even with my own conundrums regarding our Catholic faith. Thanks for your patience with me! You were positive and unflappable.

I loved the music you made with New Creation and with the various Corpus Christi choirs, and especially enjoyed those times I got to work with you corralling the children's choirs at holidays and special Masses. I even picked up one of my hobbies, playing the darbouka drum, because of your tutelage in playing the conga!

You are loved, and you will be missed.
