

Marilyn (Douglas) Wilber, 85, former Aberdeen resident, passed away on June 29, 2012 in Colorado Springs, CO, at the Springs Village Care Center. Marilyn Lucille Douglas was born in Aberdeen, SD, to Laverne and Gladys (Rasmussen) Douglas on February 21, 1927. She attended schools in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. She attended Northern Normal College (now NSU) and graduated from the former Aberdeen School of Commerce.
Marilyn married Donald M. Wilber on March 15, 1947. They made their home and raised three children in Aberdeen and rural Bath, SD area. They bred and showed paint horses for several years on the Ten Spot Ranch. After her divorce Marilyn made her home in Colorado Springs, CO with her mother and subsequently with her oldest daughter. She continued to live in the ‘Springs’ area until her death.
Marilyn worked as a secretary for Skelly and then for South Dakota Wheat Growers. She was co-owner with her mother of The Dixie Cream Donut Shop on South Main in Aberdeen where she spent many early mornings baking. She worked for Penrose St. Francis cashier’s office in Colorado Springs for several years before she retired. She was an avid reader and often had a book open in every room.
Marilyn (Douglas) Wilber is survived by her children: Lynn (Carl) Anderson of Peyton, CO, Dale Wilber (Lisa Hirsh) of Sioux Falls, SD, Cynthia (Lawrence) Igl of Aberdeen, SD, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by both parents and her brother, Loren Douglas of Anchorage, Alaska, and by her former husband, Donald.
A private graveside interment service will be held in the Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Aberdeen, SD. Mountain View Mortuary of Colorado Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
The family is planning a small memorial service at Springs Village Care Center on the 13th of July at 10 a.m. in Colorado Springs.
