Springs passed away on March 22, 2017 peacefully at her
home with family at her side.
Marion was born March 15, 1931 in Drake, North Dakota to
the late Henry and Julia (Larson) Nussbaum. She was the 6th
of 12 children and moved with her family to Colorado Springs
in 1955. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Drake, North Dakota. She graduated
from high school in Drake. She received her teaching degree
from Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado and
her Masters in Education from Colorado College in Colorado
Springs.
Marion taught 2nd grade at Lowell Elementary in Colorado
Springs until it closed and then at Ivywild Elementary for a 47
year teaching career. She loved teaching and always dressed
as a role model for her students. She is remembered for
teaching her students how to "hold a pencil correctly" and for
countless hands on learning activities in her classroom. She
loved her 2nd graders as if they were her own children.
Marion loved to read and gave this gift to many. She loved
history and studied it even in her retirement years.
Marion's second love was her flowers. She spent many hours
gardening and was proud of her beautiful flower gardens. She
looked forward each spring to buying as many new plants as
she could at Spencer's Garden Shop as well as buying the
many fruits, vegetables, pumpkins, and Christmas trees. A
highlight for Marion was taking her nieces and nephews to the
Spencer candy store each Christmas.
Marion is survived by her sisters Jeanette Elam of Peyton,
Colorado, Arlie (husband Don) Warembourg of Aurora
Colorado. Her brothers Dennis (Butch) (wife Kay) Nussbaum
of Iowa, and Gary ( Tony)(wife Wilda) Nussbaum of Colorado
