I love you, Grandma. You are already missed.

They visited us when they lived in Florida.

Mom devoted her life to her family. Family was so very important to her. She loved all the family parties - whether she was hosting or attending.  Mom made Christmas Eve a tradition that has been carried down through the next generations...ham buns, egg nog, and cheese ball.  I still use the recipe for the egg nog and cheese ball she would serve. She also loved the babies that were added to the family and went out of her way to get them gifts that were perfect for them.  It tickled her to watch the kids open their gifts and for the babies to wear the outfits she would pick out for them. Many baby pictures have been taken of the kids outfitted with the special outfits from Mom-Gramma-Great Gramma. The family traditions Mom started will continue and the family will know why they are still following those traditions because Mom made them special.

I will be married to Holly for forty two years in 2020. My mother passed away almost twenty four years ago. I have been so privileged since that time to have someone like Holly's mom show me even more love than just a son in law, because she knew I missed my mother.  I have had so many special experiences with her and Holly's dad over the years and especially since they moved to Colorado. One of those special times here in Colorado was our Thursday night dinners at their apartment. I will love her always as she was very special to me.

I always enjoyed Christmas with my in-laws.  My mother-in-law invested a lot of effort in making the time memorable.  The house was beautifully decorated and the table was full of treats.  Under the tree were piles of presents that she had taken obvious care in selecting.  Her Christmases were wonderful celebrations of the coming of Jesus.  It is a great joy to know that she has now herself come into the presence of Jesus and is worshiping Him face-to-face.

When I think of my mother I think of someone who was always trying to make family times special and fun. A lot of thought went into birthdays, holidays, and vacations. I am very grateful for the home I grew up in. There was a lot of love. I never heard my parents argue. We went to church twice a week. I remember coming home from playing and used the new words I learned on the playground. I was kindly told we didn’t speak like that in this house and I still live by that today. As I think of mom now I know she is in heaven. The Bible says absent from the body, present with the lord! She has no more aches or pains or doctor visits or financial worries or disappointments. I can see her sipping some of that wine that Jesus made during his first miracle on earth. Sitting on a porch more grand than the grand hotel. Surrounded by her mom and dad and family and friends that had put their trust in Jesus while they were on this earth. And l’m sure that when the angels brought her to the pearly gates Jesus took her by the hand and said to God the Father, and if I can borrow the line of a song, “ this one’s with me, part of the family, one of the reasons I died on Calvary”! Ross and I last saw Uncle John and Aunt Marj in January of 2016, we visited with them at their place in Florida. Aunt Marj was so happy to see us that she put her hands on my face, pulled me toward her and planted many kisses on my face. That was the warmest greeting I have ever received! We visited for an hour or two (saw much of her giraffe collection) and then all of us went to Sweet Tomatoes for lunch. So glad we were able to spend the time with them! Wish I had taken a picture before we left.

I have so many wonderful memories of my mother. One thing she did while we were growing up was make the holidays very special. Each holiday had it's own decorations in the house and even each season had it's own decorations. Easter and Christmas were especially nice. I followed in her tradition when my own boys were growing up, decorating for each season and holiday and including my kids in the fun. Thanks, Mom

We so appreciated Aunt Marj's help, kindness and nurses advice with Louise and Mom and Dad while she was living in Florida. Visiting Aunt Marj and Uncle John when we were in Florida was always a fun time.
My fondest memory of them as a child was when I got to stay with them for a week while my Mom was in the hospital having a baby. They lived close enough to my school that I could walk there and back. I would go to their apartment for lunch every day and Aunt Marj always had a sandwich, chips and pickle waiting for me. The chips and pickle were a wonderful treat for me. 
Thank you to Uncle John for choosing to marry such a marvelous woman. She is greatly missed and loved by us all.

These last couple of months have been so much fun. I expected to be your personal chauffeur for a long long time Gram.... I can't believe you're not going to be my "partner in crime" anymore well not til we meet again anyway...
