“Muggs” was her family’s moniker for her as a child, though as an adult she much preferred the formality of Marjorie and Mother (despite her sons’ persistence in calling her “ma” just to lovingly exasperate her)! At the age of fourteen, March 17, 1940, Marjorie was received into full Communion at St. John's English Lutheran Church, Oshkosh, WI by the solemn rite of Confirmation and the Sacrament of Baptism. She continued her active involvement in the church throughout her life and affirmed her commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in August 2023.
Marjorie graduated with high honors from Oshkosh High School on June 10, 1943. Following WWII, she met Earl Smith at a local Oshkosh dance club, and he proved to be an excellent and long-term dance partner! They were married on May 31,1947 and shared a deeply committed marriage until Earl's passing in 2001.
Marjorie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Marjorie is survived by her daughters Barbara and Nancy, and her sons Gregory and Robert, and spouses, along with nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Gary Dean Smith, and her husband, Earl George Smith.
Aside from her devotion to family and her infectious giggle, Marjorie enjoyed creative expression. She was skilled with her ancient sewing machine and learned upholstery to brighten her home through numerous DIY projects. When Earl's job moved them to Westport, CT she excelled in creating intricate crafts for the annual church Christmas fair. Volunteering continued when the couple retired to Ocala, FL. She served many years on the Board of their Homeowners Association and dedicated over twenty-five years of service to the Marion County Hospital, entering volumes upon volumes of volunteer hours into the hospital database. She was an avid reader throughout her lifetime, continuing with countless hours of audio volumes through the Colorado Talking Book Library when failing eyesight robbed her of the printed page.
A private service will be held to inurn Marjorie alongside her husband, Earl George, in the Sanctuary of Memories Columbarium at Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh, WI.
Marjorie's legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
