October 8, 1919 – June 28, 2022
Marjorie E. Sharp married to Charles H. Stoopes, enjoyed 69 years of joyful marriage.
Marjorie Stoopes, 102, died on June 28, 2022. Charles preceded her in death on January 1, 2018.
She is survived by her son, Craig and daughter, Laurie Jones, and granddaughter, Katie Jones.
She was born in Patchogue, Long Island, New York to Robert Michael Sharp, and Mary Elizabeth Kennedy.
Her family moved to Colorado Springs in December 1961, after living in Florida for 10 years. It was a real experience for the kids to see snow for the first time.
Marge graduated from the Berkeley Business College in New York City, and then signed-up to join the first regiment of the Marine Corps Women’s Reserve.
Marjorie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Women’s Reserve in Feb. 1943 and was assigned to active duty on March 25, 1943. She was in Cleveland, Ohio and worked as a secretary in the procurement office, later was stationed at Quantico AFB for a short time, and then transferred to the Navy Annex Bldg. in Arlington VA, until the war ended in October 1945. This military-type experience deepened her love and pride for her country. In civilian life, she spent the next 25 years (as a Civil Servant) working for the Aerospace Defense Command at Peterson AFB, in Colorado Springs. She and her husband Charles enjoyed many travels and a few cruises, and loved their family and home in Colorado, very much.
There will be a private family memorial and cremation.
