Mark Stoyer Bowers, age 62, resident of Colorado Springs, died suddenly as a result of a fall, Thursday, August 26, 2010. Mark was born in Seattle, Washington, the son of the late William James & Edith Grace (Stoyer) Bowers.
Although a long-time bachelor, Mark found and married the love of his life, Rita Stephenson, on April 24, 2004. He enjoyed being a stepfather to Rita’s children, helping them work their way through their teenage years. Mark will be remembered by all of his family and friends as a loving, generous, and knowledgeable man. He was an unusually gifted mechanic, who found solace in his five-car garage with the attached two-bedroom Ivywild home. After racing motorcycles, gymkhanas, and drag racing in his early teenage years, he built a dune buggy at the age of 19. He continued to indulge his life-long passion for motorsports, owning Norton motorcycles and Nissan Z-cars. He was a collector of unusual things, allowing him to indulge his thirst for knowledge. An inventive and creative cook, one of Mark’s greatest pleasures was preparing meals for others. He was a proud ‘Gator’ from the University of Florida, earning a BS in Physics (’69) and an MS in Education (’71). A satellite engineer for many years in Sunnyvale, CA and later at Schriever AFB, CO, he concluded his career as a Systems Security Engineer, first at Allied Signal/Honeywell and then at Harris Corp.
