Born on January 4, 1983, in Erlangen, Germany, Mark grew up with a strong sense of independence and creative drive that would define his life. Music became his passion and his purpose.
A gifted singer, songwriter, and producer, Mark wrote, produced, and performed all of his own music. Over a long and dedicated career, he performed under several band names, including Machinegun Symphony, Synapse, Gravity Corps, and Voicecoil. He worked for eight years with Bright and Loud Productions alongside his best friend, Mark Passmore, building not only a professional partnership but a lasting friendship rooted in creativity and shared vision.
Mark toured extensively both domestically and internationally. He was especially proud of performing at Whitby Gothic Weekend in Whitby, England — a highlight of his career — and cherished his travels throughout Europe, including performances in Manchester and Canada. He was also a longtime presence at the Salt Lake Dark Arts Festival, playing and attending for nearly two decades, becoming a respected and familiar figure in that community.
Recently, Mark achieved a milestone that represented the culmination of years of perseverance and artistic dedication when he signed a record deal with Dependent Records — an accomplishment of which he was immensely proud.
He is survived by his father, Major Mark W. Sousa (U.S. Army, Retired) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and his sister, Jessica Steiber of Aurora, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Hands Sousa.
Mark will be remembered for his relentless creative spirit, his devotion to his music, and the lasting impact he made on audiences, friends, and family.
A Celebration of Life service to honor Mark will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 10:00AM, at Chapel of Memories, 829 South Hancock Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
