Mark Alan Zimmerman

Mark Alan Zimmerman passed away on September 6, 2026, at the age of 59. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, veteran, and friend. Mark will be remembered for his contagious laugh, quick wit, and ability to bring joy to everyone around him.

Mark was born on February 13, 1967, in Eureka, South Dakota, to Earl and Vivian Zimmerman. He later moved with his family to Wishek, North Dakota, where he was raised and graduated from high school. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Vivian Zimmerman, and his infant sister, Lisa Zimmerman.

Following graduation, Mark proudly served his country by joining the United States Army. Stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he served with the Field Artillery Half Section and had the unique opportunity to break horses for military use, combining his skill of breaking horses with his military service. Mark was also honored to participate in the Presidential Inaugural Parade for President George H.W. Bush.

Mark built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and the things he loved most. He and Lana enjoyed life on their hobby farm in Peyton, Colorado, where he spent countless hours caring for animals. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his daughter, Maria, sharing his love of horses and teaching her to ride and compete in 4-H. Mark's greatest pride and joy was being a parent, and he cherished every chance to make Maria laugh. Whether she was dressing him up, covering him with stickers, or practicing makeup on him, Mark happily played along. As Maria got older, he found new ways to bring joy into their days, often acting silly, teasing, or becoming what they jokingly called a "monkey tennager" hyped up on sugar and attitude - all for the reward of seeing smiles on their faces and creating memories.

More than anything, Mark will be remembered for the laughter he brought into the world. A lifelong prankster and jokester, he had a gift for making people smile. His infectious laugh could fill a room, and his sense of humor turned ordinary moments into cherished memories. As a young child, his siblings nicknamed him "Sharky," a name he embraced throughout his life and one that became synonymous with his fun-loving spirit.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Lana Zimmerman; his cherished daughter, Maria Zimmerman; his brothers, Michael (Perihan) Zimmerman and Dan (Lori) Zimmerman; his sisters, Deb (Jim) Hagerott, Sheri (Brandon) Engleking, and Kim (Rowdy Dorweiler) Marty; nieces Stephanie Zimmerman, Allison (Joseph) Cardenas, Jaclyn (Raiden) Iverson, and Bexley Iverson; nephews Alex Zimmerman, Austin Hagerott, Brenden (Kenzie) Hardy, Brayden Engleking, Camden Engleking, Bryce Hardy, and Liam Cardenas; along with many extended family members, friends, neighbors, and fellow veterans who will miss him dearly.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, those who loved Mark find comfort in the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the legacy of kindness, humor, and love he leaves behind. His spirit will live on in every story told, every smile shared, and every life he touched.

Mark's family invites all who knew and loved him to remember him not with sadness alone, but with the laughter and joy that defined his life.

Visitation will be held at Calhan United Methodist Church, 583 Denver St, Calhan, CO 80808, US, on September 16, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by the Funeral at the same location from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

A Graveside service will take place at Peyton Cemetery, Peyton, Peyton, CO 80831, US, on September 16, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.

Following the graveside service, a reception luncheon will be held at Calhan United Methodist Church, 583 Denver St, Calhan, CO 80808, on September 16, 2026 starting at 1pm.
