

Marlene was born in La Junta, Colorado to Harold and Tillie Hammond on July 13, 1939. She grew up on a farm and worked at the family’s laundromat. After high school she worked in the local drug store, soda shop, until she married Max Wheeler in 1959. They moved to Lamar where Kevin was born. They later moved to Colorado Springs where Kari was born.
She was very involved with her children’s rodeo's and horse shows when they were young and drove around every weekend to watch them. Marlene loved having dogs and always had them around. She got remarried to Lonny Schoon in 1980. She worked as a cashier at Albertson’s 30 years and made many lifelong friends there. Marlene enjoyed taking family vacations every year to Glenwood Springs.
She is survived by her daughter, Kari (Greg); granddaughter, Casi (Alan); granddaughter,Chantelle; grandson, Lonny (Brittni); and 5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Kevin and her sister, Rena.
