Born in Chicago and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mary Ann attended Putnam City grade and high schools before earning her Bachelor of Education degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma State University. She began her teaching career in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where, just a year and a half later, she met and married the love of her life, Charles Janss.
As the wife of a career military officer, Mary Ann embraced a life of adventure and service, accompanying Charles throughout his 31-year military career. Along the way, she taught elementary school in Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada; and middle school in Slidell, Louisiana and West Springfield, Virginia. While living in Northern Virginia, she began a new chapter in her professional life as an executive assistant for a nationally recognized U.S. medical organization.
After returning to Slidell, Mary Ann founded her own personal care business and served on the board of the Holistic Medical Society at a local hospital. She was also honored as Queen of a local Mardi Gras Krewe.
Mary Ann found her greatest joy in the people she loved. She treasured time spent with family and friends, whether sharing stories around the table, laughing together over games of Liverpool Rummy or Monopoly with her children and grandchildren, and enjoying life's simple pleasures. She especially loved water skiing, a pastime that reflected her adventurous spirit and zest for life. Her warmth, kindness, gentle sense of humor, and genuine interest in others left lasting memories with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Mary Ann is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Charles Janss of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her two sons, Thomas and Steven; her grandchildren, Keegan Janss and Noah Janss; and her brother, David McCasland and his wife, Luann, of Colorado Springs.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
Mary Ann's life was one of love, devotion, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
