Mary Helen Martindale was born in Karnes County, Texas on June 7, 1959 and entered eternal life in heaven on May 20, 2018. As a warrior battling cancer for 11 years, Mary beat cancer by leaving her body and pain behind.
Throughout those years, Mary redefined what true strength, courage and dignity mean. Mary’s tenacious will to live and love of family were second only to her faith in God.
Mary was raised in Runge, Texas by parents Alejandro and Criselda Torres, graduating from Runge High School in 1977. Mary later worked for the school and met Dan Martindale who was teaching and coaching there. They were married in Runge on July 20, 1980. That same year their daughter, Jaimie, was born in El Paso, Texas.
In 1995, Dan, Mary and Jaimie settled in Colorado Springs, CO. She worked for State Farm Insurance for 27 years where she made many lifelong friends.
Above all, being Jaimie’s mother was her life’s joy. She taught Jaimie about life, meeting challenges head on, never giving up, and how to be an independent woman.
Recently, Mary had but two wishes: To be at Jaimie’s wedding and to become a grandmother. In October 2017, Mary was Maid of Honor at Jaimie and Kane’s wedding. Two months ago, Mary learned Jaimie and Kane will have a son this November.
Family was so important to Mary. She greatly enjoyed visiting all her siblings in Texas.
Cherishing her memory are devoted husband Dan, loving daughter Jaimie and son-in-law Kane Lawson, siblings Sylvia (Woody) Maby, Rose (Charlie) Overstreet, Irma (Billy) Garza, Ernest Torres, Alex Torres, and Lisa Rossett, sister-in-law Jean Gallagher and brothers-in-law Jim and Don Martindale, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her faithful pups, Ozzie and Max.
Visitation will take place Friday, May 25, 2018 from 4:00-8:00pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm, at Swan Law Funeral Directors located at 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday May 26, 2018 at 9:00am at Saint Peter Church located at 55 Jefferson St., Monument. Inurnment will follow the reception at Mount Saint Francis, Colorado Springs.
