Max Eugene Lewis

Max was born on October 25, 1944, to James I Lewis and Evelyn (Blodgett) Lewis in Downing, Missouri. He spent most of his early childhood years living on his grandfather’s farm where he would follow the horse and plow, picking up worms so he and grandpa could go fishing.

When the family left the farm, they lived in many different places often working as tenant farmers.

In 1962 he decided to attend Kirksville Bible School so he could finish his high school education. There he met and married the love of his life, Carolyn, and they were married for 62 years. That union was blessed with two children, Angela Beth and Robert Benjamin Lewis. Max’s Mother, Father and two sisters, Alice Brock and Nellie Helfrich preceded him in death. His two remaining sisters, Helen Lewis and Judy Lewis, survive to grieve with the family. He loved his grandchildren Andrew Niccum, Leslie Niccum, Chloe Pleitgen, and James Lewis. He also had seven great grandchildren: Connor, Gunner, Wesson, Liliann, Stoeger, Kylee, Loreli, and they were all very precious to him.

After finishing college at Kansas City College and Bible School he pastored the Church of God Holiness in Kirksville MO and then went into service with World Literature Crusade. In 1984 he joined Wycliffe Associates where he continued to serve for 34+ years.

In Brad Reiches book “Warriors in Your Midst”, Brad dedicated it to Max. It reads as follows: THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED TO MAX LEWIS. Retiring after 34 plus years, Max was the longest serving area director for Wycliffe Associates. He was their “Iron Man” with a record of service that may never be broken. It is estimated that he has driven over a million miles and raised multiple millions of dollars all for the sake of Bible Translation and furthering the Kingdom of God.

It is remarkable to consider that Max has presented nearly TWO THOUSAND banquets over the years, reaching thousands of people along the way. His loyalty, commitment and sacrifice, dedication and consistency have been a model for the entire organization.

Of course, we would be remiss not to mention his better half his right-hand woman and wife … Carolyn.

Together they will leave a legacy with Wycliffe Associates that may never be duplicated and certainly will never be forgotten.”

A funeral will be held at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 5055 El Camino Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80918, US, on August 19, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by entombment at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910, US, on August 19, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
