My sincere condolences. Major Huyett was my commander in the NORAD band and was so down-to-earth.  Enjoyed serving under him. 

Major Huyett was indeed a true gentleman.  I had the privilege of knowing him at the Lackland AF Band and visited with him during his trips to the Canal  Zone, Panama. He was a good man.  May God rest his soul.  

To coin the phrase "An Officer and a Gentleman" would be my immediate assessment of Mel Huyett.  He genuinely cared for his men as he did for his music.    I was honored to have him as my band commander at Lackland and fellow friend while at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

Major Huyett was my commanding officer at Lackland AFB in Texas. I never met a more congenial and accessible commander in my 20 years of service. His door was always open to even the lowest military grade and you knew, instinctively, that your well being was his highest concern. I last saw the Major at an Air Force band reunion in Colorado Springs, CO in 2006. He remained the consummate gentleman!

Our memory of Mel is very fond...We met him when we were on vacation in Colorado Springs meeting up with our friend Grant...Mel took us into his home for a couple of days and fed us and talked to us and shared his home with us...He was so nice to us as if we were family...It was a pleasure meeting him and knowing him...We will miss him and his wife Frankie always...They will remain in our hearts always...God Bless him in his eternal rest...

Mel was my closest and dearest friend. 
He had a kind and gentle heart.  He was in every way a blessing in my life.

Mel was the kindest person I've ever met and will be greatly missed by all that knew him,he dedicated his life to helping animals and people regardless of circumstances
