Mildred "Nanny" DeHerrera

Mildred DeHerrera, aged 81, went home to be with Jesus, on August 30th, 2026, reunited with her best friend and husband, Angelio. Mildred, known as Nanny by her family, lived a life of faithful commitment to her family and her God.

Mildred, seventh of twelve kids, met Angelio in third grade and they became inseparable in high school. They married in 1965 and began a life together that would span more than six decades. Several years into their marriage, in the quiet of their home, they knelt down and gave their lives to Jesus. From that moment forward, they chose to walk out their beautiful story with God as their guiding light. Nanny worked various jobs while raising her three kids, Angelia, David and Michael. She sacrificed for her family, rising hours before the sun to go to work at Current. She especially enjoyed working the embroidery machines in the personalization department.

Nanny brought laughter with her quick wit and sassy comebacks. Even toward the end of her life, she kept her sense of humor and her quips became known as “Nanny-isms” that were shared in many family chats. Her laughter, alongside her calm perspective on hardship, became legendary and have brought the family through many difficult times. In a family of musicians, Nanny boasted that she was the manager and that the only instrument she played was the radio. When diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 15 years ago, she simply said, “It will be okay. It IS okay,” trusting in the Lord to see her through and entrusting her family to Him. Her childlike faith was her silent strength.

Nanny will be remembered for the way she loved in big and small ways. She did laundry for an overwhelmed family member. She took care of her grandkids. She made her famous rice pudding during the holidays and baked snowball cookies with her tiny little helpers. She embroidered pillowcases for her kids, made the holidays magical with decorations and traditions, and played rummy with her grandkids. She could make a delicious meal of beans and tortillas and somehow make the money stretch. She shared cuttings from the flowers in her garden and could single-handedly clothe her grandkids with her incredible garage sale finds.

She was always for her family. She would give whatever she had, do whatever was needed, and willingly give up something of her own if it meant helping someone she loved. Her greatest wish was simple: to see her family happy and healthy. She loved without reservation and held nothing back.

Mildred leaves behind her children Angelia and her husband, Rick, David and his wife, Holly, and Michael and his wife, Holly. Her legacy lives on in her cherished grandchildren, Lauren (Audrey), Isaac (Isabel), Cristoval, Jacob, Matthew, Hannah (Alli), Emma (Sami), Abby (Trey), Ella and Liam, and three great-grandchildren, Raelyn, Parker, and Theo. Mildred is also survived by her siblings Edward, Jimmy and Stella.
