Mileta R Woods

April 27, 1923 - March 30, 2014

Nicki Woods, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2014 at Mount St. Francis in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born in Milford (Dickinson County), Iowa, April 27, 1923, to the late Peter and Josephine (Naber) Lamberty. She was the youngest of 10 children and affectionately called "Babe”.

Nicki grew up on her parents' farm outside Dell Rapids, South Dakota and graduated from St. Mary's High School. She graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and began a long career as a secretary. Nicki joined the Civil Service and worked for the Department of Air Force in South Dakota, the Azores, California, Alaska and Colorado. She came to Colorado Springs in 1953 and was employed at Ent Air Force Base.

She met Donald E. Woods (MGST, USAF) and they married in May 1960. He passed away in March 1989. She is also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. Survivors include sons Michael (Susan) Woods of Owasso, Oklahoma, Mark Woods of Scotts Valley, California, and Stuart Woods of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Audrey, Jackson and Parker and a host of cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

After retiring from secretarial work in 1988, Nicki volunteered at Penrose Main Hospital, Marion House Soup kitchen and, most recently, the Air Academy District 20 administration offices. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Penrose-St. Francis Healthcare Volunteer Association and the Woodmen Valley Volunteer Fire Department board.

The Funeral Mass will take place Tuesday, 8 April, 2014 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Mount St. Francis, 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs. Rev. Ken Pryzbyla, Presider. Private interment services will follow later in the week.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1445 S. Union Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80909.
