Myla Ann Williams Wray, beloved wife, mother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Mesa, Arizona, on September 9, 2025, surrounded by family. She dedicated her life to education, service, and creativity, touching countless lives with her compassion, wisdom, and artistry.
Born May 22, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, to Vera and Roy Williams, Myla was a lifelong learner, educator, and artist. She earned a B.A. in Art and Psychology from DePaul University in 1989 and dual graduate degrees in art therapy and fine arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1993, later adding a BFA in Education. She believed deeply in the power of art to inspire growth, healing, and connection.
Her career spanned many disciplines as an art therapist, child welfare specialist, college instructor, curator, and motivational speaker. She lectured widely on multiculturalism in art and the role of creativity in healing. After marrying Christopher Wray in 1994, she continued her professional and volunteer work in Chicago before relocating to Colorado Springs in 2007. There, she became a lecturer with the Pillar Institute for Lifelong Learning, an active member of the Exchange Club, and a presenter with Educating Children of Color.
Above all, Myla was devoted to her family, raising three children—Dylan, Mylan, and Aylana—blending art, history, and culture into daily life. She is survived by her husband, children, sister Vivian, brother Vernon, and extended family.
