Capt. (Ret.) Nancy deVries Brunkow passed away on December 31, 2018. Daughter of W. D. and Merlyn Brunkow, Nancy was born on November 6, 1958 in Portland, OR. She attended Charles Rice Elementary School and Rose City Park Grade School, and graduated from Madison High School.
Nancy was among the first Oregon female graduates of the Air Force Academy, class of 1981. She proudly served in the Air Force, culminating her service as a missile commander in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was a life-long member of Rose City Park United Methodist Church.
Predeceased by her parents, Nancy is survived by her brother David Brunkow and sister Barbara Brunkow. She is also survived by first cousins Robert deVries Brunkow, James Brunkow (Packy Conway), Bonnie Brunkow Olson (Neal), Carol Brunkow Anaya (Regi), Janet Brunkow Meier, Richard Brunkow (Charlene), Larry Brunkow, Cora Brunkow Smith, Susan Harris (Phil Winn), Karen Lange (Bruce) and Cheri Streeter, along with numerous second cousins and relatives.
Nancy loved the Air Force, and she loved her dogs Lady, Amber, Sadie and Teva. Donations may be made in her memory to the Air Force Academy Association of Graduates (3116 Academy Drive, USAF Academy, CO 80840) or to an organization supporting Veterans, or to Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital (1945 NW Pettygrove St. Portland, OR 97209) or to another organization benefitting animals, or to a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank her friends and neighbors who were kind and helpful to Nancy during the significant health challenges she faced with great courage, determination and fierce independence. We also want to especially thank cousins Packy, Bonnie, Kelsey, James and Neal for the love and support they provided to Nancy during her recent illness.
Service to be held at 10am, January 30, at the Air Force Academy Chapel, followed by burial with full Military Honors at the Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs. Arrangements by Lincoln Memorial in Portland and Swan Law Funeral Directors in Colorado Springs.
