Nancy Jo Delhousay passed away at home in Monument, Colorado on July 6th. While her passing was unexpected, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is at home with the Lord, as well as her departed mother and sister Barbara. A beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, she will be deeply missed.
Nancy was born in San Diego, as the youngest of three sisters on July 30th, 1948 to the late William and Wilma Carey. She was a graduate of Grossmont High School in La Mesa, California (class of 1966). In her youth, Nancy enjoyed spending hours at the beach and surfing the Southern California waves. Upon the untimely death of her mother, she relocated to Downey, California to be with her sisters, Barbara and Marilyn. There, Nancy worked as a dental hygienist and enjoyed attending church at Long Beach Brethren, where she met her husband, Dennis. The two were wed in 1976 and their three children Shaun, Wendy and Heather were born shortly after. Nancy loved motherhood and cherished each of her children, never failing to support and connect with each of their unique personalities. Whether her children were participating in swim meets, school functions or church events, Nancy was always at the helm, enjoying every minute of busy family life. The family enjoyed vacationing at Hume Lake every summer and getting together with relatives almost every weekend.
“The Carey Sisters” have always stuck close together, even through a relocation from Downey to Monument, Colorado in 1996, where they and their families eventually lived less than a mile apart from each other. In Colorado, Nancy worked as an encourager at Dave Dravecky’s Outreach of Hope, where she ministered to those who were battling with cancer as well as amputee patients, helping them to keep their faith in dark times. Through this ministry, she built strong, lasting friendships with many people whose lives she touched.
Nancy loved her home in Colorado and could often be found sitting on her deck, reading, watching the blue jays or tending to her flowers. She loved hosting family dinners and spending time with her friends. Perhaps most important to her in her later years were the moments she shared with her grandchildren. Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Dennis and her children, Shaun, Wendy, and Heather. She was known as ‘Mimi’ to her five grandchildren: Ella, Riley, Lincoln, Presley, and Nolan. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara, just 5 months prior to her own passing.
A private graveside service for family will be held at Spring Valley Cemetery. On July 30, a memorial service will be held at Woodmen Valley Chapel (Rockrimmon) main campus at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Monument Partners In The Gospel (PITG) building fund. Donations can be made by a check to Woodmen Valley Chapel with PITG marked on the note line or online at www.woodmenvalley.org/giveonline and choosing the Monument building fund.
