Nita Bermudez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, passed away on January 23, 2015 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was comforted by her husband and four children by her side. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, September 20, 1936, the third child of Juana (Acosta) and Richard Mantici, she was an avid reader, recreational camper and traveler who delighted being with her family. She loved children, animals and nature; she warmly welcomed all she met.
She was a consummate military wife, independent, capably caring for and comforting the children while husband John was away on remote assignments or in harm's way. As a volunteer Gray Lady at military hospitals and clinics, she cheerfully cared for Viet Nam era soldiers at the Brookes Army Medical Center Burn Unit, and wept for them at night. She was active in clubs and faculty wives activities, gracious and helpful to all.
As a young homemaker she trained and worked as a dental assistant and later as an office manager in adoption services, vocational rehabilitation and mental health. Meanwhile, she kept actively involved in the lives of family, making holidays and gatherings special, always with lovingly prepared meals and seasonally festive decorations.
She leaves a lifetime of cherished memories to her loving husband of nearly 60 years, 3 daughters, Linda Bermudez-Hafer, Betty (Paul) Capozzoli, Cathy (Jim) Boyd, and son Christopher Bermudez. She is survived by 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and her cherished Dachshund, Zeva that was always at her side. Loved by many, she will be sorely, greatly missed.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 28, 2015 from 3pm to 6pm with a light reception accompanying the visitation.
