Norma Easley-Eyre left this world December 31, 2014. She was born in the Minnehaha House in Manitou Springs, June 17, 1927 to Ralph Wilbur Easley and Norma Alice Grace and spent her early life on her grandparents homestead in Divide.
At eighteen, while driving Army vehicles for Camp Carson she met and married Frank Mazzillo. Their son, Carl Ralph Mazzillo, survives her.
Later, in California, she managed the famous Brown Derby and other nightclubs in Hollywood.
Back in Colorado she married Duncan Mac Alester Eyre, who precedes her in death. Their two children, Helen Eyre Hazelton and Duncan MacAlester Eyre, survive her. Her beloved sister, Patricia Porter was her lifelong friend and confidant.
Norma loved to travel, the more exotic the better. She went alone to Cairo and Khartoum in her sixties to satisfy her fascination with the ancient world.
Norma regarded every obstacle as a challenge and reveled in her ability to triumph over adversity, of which she had more than her share.
She was a steadfast friend whose loyalty was unassailable while her regard for the opinion of others was provisional.
More than anything, Norma will be remembered for her fearless independent spirit and joie de vivre.
She was dearly loved by her family and will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice.
Memorial Services will be held at Grace and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Thursday, January 8th, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
