A proud graduate of Roma High School's Class of 1966 and Blair College, Philip served in the U.S. Army for seven years during the Vietnam War as an explosive’s technician. That chapter of his life shaped the resilience, dedication, and quiet strength that defined him.
After returning home, he spent more than three decades with the Colorado Department of Transportation, where he helped pave the gravel road to the summit of Pikes Peak and planted the first trees along the bend leading to the Colorado Springs Airport. Through his work and service, he left a lasting mark on the state he loved. Philip was a devoted patriot of his faith, country, and community.
Throughout his life, Philip found great joy in fellowship and service. He was active in the Broadmoor Nighttime Ski Club, Civil Air Patrol, Pond Club, and Veterans Post 209, where he formed friendships that spanned decades. He also treasured Bible study groups and men's breakfast gatherings, always appreciating the fellowship, conversation, and shared faith they provided. Whether playing games or cards with friends and family, he was known for letting others win simply to see them smile. Those small acts of kindness reflected the generosity and warmth that defined his character.
Above all, Philip was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished his daughters, Julie and Emily, and had a special gift for turning ordinary moments into treasured memories. His love for God and family was always evident through his actions, often expressed through a smile rather than words. Those who knew him understood the depth of his love through the quiet ways he cared for others. As he celebrated his 78th birthday, he was all smiles, surrounded by the people and blessings he treasured most. His gentle spirit, generosity, and sense of humor touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Philip is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Judy; his parents, Glen and Ruth; his sisters, Gloria and Vickie; and his brother, Barry.
He is survived by his daughters, Emily and Julie; his grandchildren, Brendan and Joy. Each of them carries a piece of his kindness, humor, and enduring love. He is also survived by his uncle, Billy; his sister, Rae Ann; his nieces, Dawn, Tanya, and Jennifer; his nephews, Joshua, Michael, and Jeremy; and several cousins.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the many prayers, kind words, and expressions of support received during this time.
Philip had a lifelong love of plants and gardening. Friends who wish to honor his memory may send flowers prior to 10:15 a.m. on October 19.
A service celebrating Philip's life will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life lived with kindness, humility, and a heart that gave far more than it ever asked in return.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
Matthew 25:23
