Pris was born on December 30, 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Nobel Buford Blackman and Minnie Ellen Blackman. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Georgine Ellen Wright and Roberta June Anderson; her first husband, James Blakely Cutler (divorced in 1988); her beloved husband, Darby Nelson, who passed in March 2021; Son-in-law Stephen Moyski, and several dear nieces and nephews.
Pris is survived by her four children: James Nobel (Cathy) Cutler, Steven Blakely (Cristy) Cutler, Beth Ann (Cutler) Moyski, and Amy Sue Cutler; her grandchildren: Monica Cutler, Chad Landers, Oliver Moyski, Jayna Stull, and Tanner Stull; and one great-grandson, Maverick Horton. As well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to raising her four children, Pris was a talented pianist and organist. A devout Christian, she faithfully served Methodist churches in nearly every community she called home. Her musical talents graced countless worship services, and she especially cherished the opportunity to play challenging works such as Handel’s Messiah during Christmastime. Beyond her musical contributions, she often served as church secretary and sang in the choir, as a way to support and enrich her church.
Pris was also an avid reader, with a deep love for books that stayed with her throughout her life. She dabbled in sewing and ceramics and adored her many pet dogs throughout her life.
No services will be held, per her wishes. If inclined, contributions in Pris’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Shriners Hospitals for Children—two causes dear to her heart.
