It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rebecca Ruskin, a beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, and loyal friend. Rebecca passed away on October 29th, 2023, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 82. She was the daughter of Leo and Madelyn Walkow from Texarkana, Texas.
Rebecca, with her twin sister Miriam, was a shining light from the very beginning. She was raised with a strong sense of compassion, an unwavering dedication to her family, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of this world.
Following graduation from the University of Oklahoma, Rebecca married Joseph Ruskin, living throughout Texas and in Colorado. She pursued a career in education and dedicated her talents to shaping the minds of countless young students. Her passion for teaching and nurturing the next generation left a lasting impact.
Rebecca raised her two daughters, Dee Anna and Marcy, with love, wisdom, and unwavering support, instilling in them the same values of compassion and integrity that she held dear. Her family was always at the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with her children, nieces, nephews and, later in life, her grandchildren, who named her “GAGA” and gave her light in every day.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ruskin, and her twin sister, Miriam Cyprus. She is survived by two daughters, Dee Anna (Greg) Schafer, Marcy (Craig) Gutow; four grandchildren, Madeline Schafer, Davis Gutow, Lainey Gutow, and Macy Gutow; as well as niece and nephews, Sharon (Michael, Ari, Rachel) Coplon, and David Cyprus, Michael (Shangri-La, Indie) Hearn, Susan (Stuart, Alissa, Lucy) Laves, Laura (Todd, Grady, Jacob) Sussman.
Family and friends are welcome to attend the graveside service at Sons of Israel Cemetery at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 2nd, 2023.
